Intel Core I7 960 Vs AMD Phenom II

Intel Core i7The Competition between Intel and AMD processor in the market seems never ending. Intel has launched their newest processor, that's Intel Core i7, AMD also launched the AMD Phenom II performance is also not far from the Core i7.

  • Processor with the codename Nehalem was launched in November 2008. Processor is claimed as the fastest processor.
  • The Core i7 use Intel QPI (Quick Path Interconnect) technology, which replaces the FSB technology. Intel QPI (Quick Path Interconnect) technology caused the connection between the memory modules on the processor Corei7 can run faster and with a bandwidth.
  • The Core i7 used 4 of Core processor with 2 of thread on each Core, so Core17 has 8 thread. we will have 8 processors in 1 chip processor with the right OS (Windows Vista / Windows 7).
  • The Core i7 Integrated MCH with 3 channels of DDR3 1066MHz
  • The Core i7 developed with 45nm manufacturing technology, 8Mb cache, 130W TDP, QPI 4.8/6.4GT/s. socket LGA 1366. At this time there is only 1 chip is truly compatible with the fastest Intel processors, that's Intel X 58 Exp Chipset with ICH 10/10R on the SouthBridge.

After Intel launched Intel Core i7, AMD lauched Phenom II for answer the fight. There are the specification of AMD Phenom II :
  • AMD Phenom II use AMD 64 with Direct Connect Architecture, that's can improve system performance directly connected with the processor, memory controller, input and output into the processor chip.
  • The Balanced Smart Cache, that's caused the cache provides enough for all the core.
  • AMD Phenom II integrated with DDR2 DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology
  • AMD Phenom II features with AMD Cool n Quiet 3.0 technology, that made tha Phenom II more efficient and have low temperature, that's good for overlocking AMD Phenom II.
  • AMD Phenom II features Dual Dynamic Power Management. Power management for power efficiency in the core processor and memory controller
  • With 45nm manufacturing technology, 8Mb cache, 125W TDP, HT 3.6GT / s, socket AM2 +. A compatible chipset that is quite a lot of AMD 780G, 790GX, 790FX and NVIDIA nForce 780 SLI.
Results from various tests mean Intel Core i7 is still faster than AMD Phenom II. However, Phenom is not far from the Core i7, especially if overclocking test. If you have a large budget and want to get the fastest processor, I recommend the Intel Core i7. However Phenom II is a more economical choice with a performance that is not far from the Core i7.
